Help staff do their best workWe have an amazing staff. Judy has assembled an expeienced staff that cares deeply for our property. The Board needs to provide a stable environment so they can do their best work for us. ![]() Photo by Eran Menashri on Unsplash Board roles and staff roles shouldn't be confused. Unless we've done something horrible and our staff has abandoned us, we need to let them do their job and not assume they need our help. Judy and Mirza have been doing this stuff for 40+ years, more than all of us combined. The Board's job is to provide strategic direction, then give staff the resources they need to execute and achieve those strategic goals. Let them do their job; don't be an arm-chair quarterback to things we aren't experts in.
Every new Board has a different flavor and different personality. It takes time for the directors to find their rhythm, and it takes staff time to figure out the dynamic as well. A stable Board that is balanced and has continuity allows for everyone to find that optimial effeciency quickly so we can get back to the business of moving our community forward. As President, I met with Judy weekly. The President is a conduit for information, not a boss and not a unilateral decision maker. Cheryl does a great job of doing this too. It is important to build processes that provided stability and give Judy and her staff predicability. For progress to be continue, the Board must provide a stable environment for it to grow in.
